Funeral services Saturday for Waterford grad killed in crash

Leah Jaskie, 19, died in crash early Sunday morning

Funeral services for Leah Jaskie, 19, of Genoa City, formerly of Waterford, will be held Saturday at Mealy Funeral Home in Waterford.

Jaskie, a 2011 Waterford Union High School graduate, was killed Jan. 22 car crash at the intersection of highways 80 and O in Waterford.

According to Lt. Thomas Lamke of the Racine County Sheriff’s Office, Jaskie was travelling south on Highway 83 when her car crossed over into the northbound lane and struck an SUV driven by Gregory J. Guzikowski, 52, at about 12:30 a.m. Sunday.

According to a press release from the Sheriff’s Office, both vehicles remained occupied and were off the roadway when emergency responders arrived.

Jaskie was pronounced dead at the scene. Guzikowski was transported to Burlington Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries and for a voluntary blood draw, according to Lamke.

“We don’t believe alcohol is involved on his (Guzikowski) part,” said Lamke. “But we won’t have the toxicology results back on Jaskie for a while yet.”

Lamke said the cause of the accident is under investigation.

The Wisconsin State Patrol and Tichigan Fire and Rescue also assisted at the scene.

Visitation for Jaskie will be from 11 a.m. to 12:24 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, at Mealy Funeral Home, 225 W. Main St, in Waterford. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m.

She is survived by Survived by her mother Sharon of Genoa City, brother Calvin and sister Kim Niswonger
