Man accused of third assault of same victim

A Burlington man out on bail after an argument turned physical in December is back in Racine County Jail – after allegedly assaulting the same person a second time in the city.

Colten Ketchum, 23, remained in Racine County Jail Tuesday evening on a $5,000 bond. He is charged with felony and misdemeanor bail jumping, misdemeanor battery, obstructing an officer and strangulation and suffocation.

According to the criminal complaint filed in Racine County Circuit Court, City of Burlington police were called to the Hampton Inn in Burlington Friday. The man Ketchum had allegedly beat the first time told police he’d been outside smoking when Ketchum approached him.

The man said he tried to go back inside when Ketchum grabbed him, and then choked and kicked him.

A Burlington police officer allegedly saw Ketchum enter a downtown bar, and another saw him running down the back stairs of the bar. Ketchum allegedly tried to leave after identifying himself as “Ryan.”

When police took him to the police department, Ketchum allegedly kicked the squad car’s windows and door, bending a window frame.

Ketchum, who has charges filed against him in both Walworth and Racine County, is accused of violating bond conditions in both cases.

All three cases involve the same man. According to the victim, Ketchum had been blaming him for the death of the victim’s brother.
