Barbara E. Engel, 83, Burlington, died Feb. 7, 2016, at Geneva Lake Manor. She was born Sept. 16, 1932, in Chicago, to the late Otto and Barbara (Fieler) Schatz. She spent her early life in Chicago where she graduated from high school.
On June 27, 1953, in Chicago, she married Michael H. Engel. Following marriage they made their home in Burlington where they raised their family. He preceded her in death on Feb. 1, 2013.
She worked for NEL Frequency Controls, was a member of Cedar Park Ladies Auxiliary and attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church. While living at Spring Brook she enjoyed playing games and participating in other activities. She always loved spending time with her family.
Survivors include her children; Donna Owens, Niceville, Fla., Christine (Mike) Yack, Florence, Ky., Michael (Lillian) Engel, Burlington, Martin (Jan) Engel, New Richmond, Michelle (Bill) Larson, Burlington, Paul (Patsy) Engel, Watertown; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; her sister, Gloria Forrest; many nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
She was further preceded in death by her brother, Dickie Schatz, and brother-in-law, Pat Forrest.
Memorial contributions may be made to The American Heart Association or Special Olympics.
The family would like to thank the staff at Geneva Lakes Manor for the care Barb received when she needed them.
Services for Barb are Thursday, Feb. 11, at 7 p.m., at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home, 625 Browns Lake Drive, Burlington, with the Rev. Lawrence Williams officiating. Visitation for family and friends is Thursday, from 5 p.m., until the time of service.
