In trying to break their 10-game losing streak, the Burlington High School girls’ basketball team needed a strong first quarter in their non-conference game against Waukesha West Tuesday. They did not get it.

Outscored 18-2 in the first period, the Demon girls dug themselves a hole they could not get out of in a 52-28 loss.             Waukesha West slowly built on their 16-point lead throughout the remainder of the game, leading 28-10 at the half, and 41-22 after three quarters.

The 28 points was a season low for the Demon girls, who have struggled offensively all season.

With the loss, Burlington fell to 2-12 overall.

Emily Golon scored half of Burlington’s points, tallying 14 points on six field goals and 2 of 4 from the free throw line.

The Demons went to the foul line 14 times, but sank just seven. West was 5 of 8.

Burlington will take on Southern Lakes Conference foe Westosha Central at Paddock Lake on Thursday, Jan. 26. The Demons are 0-6 in SLC action. Westosha Central is 1-5.

On Tuesday, Jan. 31, the Demon girls will host Elkhorn in another SLC game. Elkhorn was 3-2 going into Tuesday’s games.
