Public meeting set on highway reconstruction

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation will hold a public involvement meeting from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, April 21, at the Waterford Public Library, 101 N. River Street.

The meeting will be an open house format and address the reconstruction of highways 20 and 83 from Buena Park Road to Milwaukee Avenue (Highway 36).

The work spans the Village and Town of Waterford as well as the Village of Rochester, and will include the reconstruction of East Main Street from First Street to Milwaukee Street.

According to a DOT press release, the work will widen Highways 20 and 83 so that they could accommodate four lanes in the future and add bike lanes in the present.

“The purpose of the project is to improve safety, riding characteristics, intersection operation, sight distance and drainage throughout the corridor,” the press release stated.

The bridge in downtown Waterford will not be completely closed during the project, said Justin Suydam, the DOT project manager. He added that roads will remain at least partially open as well.
