The City of Burlington Common Council swore in the four aldermen April 19 who were re-elected April 5, and established representatives to various commissions and committees.

Ed Johnson, Ruth Dawidziak, Tom Vos and Tom Preusker took oaths for their aldermanic positions. All were re-elected without opposition. New Mayor Jeannie Hefty was also sworn in (see attached story).

Vos was re-elected as Council President – the role he filled Tuesday until Hefty was sworn in. That led to a moment of levity when Vos forgot to leave the mayor’s seat, which he occupied at the beginning of the meeting.

“She’s the mayor right now,” reminded City Attorney John Bjelajac. One of the aldermen then jokingly ordered, “Get out of the chair, Tom.”

Vos and Bob Grandi were reappointed as the council representatives to the Plan Commission, while Todd Bauman was appointed to the Airport Committee, Jon Schultz to the ChocolateFest Committee, Grandi to the Community Development Authority, Preusker to the Historic Preservation Committee, Johnson to the Library Board, Dawidziak to the Park Board and John Ekes to the Central Racine County Health Department.
