All of the early Saturday mornings tying up bowling shoes, spending too much time picking a ball and screaming over the occasional gutter ball are paying off for the area’s youth bowlers.

Burlington area middle school children, ranging in age from sixth- through eighth-graders, are heading to Green Bay this weekend for the Wisconsin Middle School Bowling state tournament.

Starting at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Ashwaubenon Lanes, kids from schools such as Karcher, Dyer and Winkler will test their skills for a chance to bring home some hardware.

Head coach Jeff Albrecht leads the squad, along with coordinator Brad Willis.

Along with a first-place finish in their district, which includes Racine, Kenosha and Waterford, the boys feature four individuals who qualified for the singles competition.

Singles kicks off the action Saturday at 9:30 a.m., followed by the team tournament at 1.

Less than 10 years old, the Burlington middle school team has made state multiple times.

The boys battle in the district tournament May 15.
