Burlington’s Megan Wallace followed up her 2015 season with yet another trip to state after advancing at Thursday’s Whitnall Sectional.

The junior set a personal record in the long jump with a finish of 17-4, missing the school record by three inches.

“I’m very proud of her,” head coach Jason Bousman said. “She wanted to return to state after getting a taste of it last year.”

Wallace also finished fourth in the 400 meter dash. Freshman Grace Peyron finished right behind her in fifth in the same event.

Among the other Burlington representatives at sectionals, Leah Joslyn qualified for state in the 100, 400, and 800 meter run in addition to the shot put.

“My expectation for her for state is to contend and bring home the championship,” Bousman said. “She brought it home her freshman year then was runner up, so she wants to get back what she earned her freshman year.”

Meta Ehlen finished second in the high jump. Ehlen also finished fourth in the 1600 meter run and fifth 800 meter run.

“I’m hoping she does her personal best at state,” Bousman said. “She had an opportunity to be close to podium.”

Emily Ustianowski finished fourth in the pole vault. On the boys side, Andrew Ohm finished eighth in the triple jump.

“As I recap the season, it comes down to the numbers,” Bousman said. “We’re up 20 athletes from last year and out of those athletes, 15 of them were freshman and sophomores, which is a great stepping stone for our program.”

Bousman praised his seniors on being leaders for the team.

“The seniors this year have done a phenomenal job at leading either on the track or off the track,” Bousman said. “We’re going to miss this year’s group of seniors. They were a huge part of helping us last year and a huge part of helping us be successful.”

The WIAA State Track and Field meet will be June 3-4 at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
