ChocolateFest shuts down due to storm

The ChocolateFest grounds were officially closed following a line of storms moving through the area shortly after 8 p.m. Saturday. Heavy rain and pea- to dime-size hail pelted the area for more than a half hour. Shortly before the storm began, festival officials called for an evacuation. The night’s main-stage band, The Now, was finishing warming up when the announcement came over the loudspeakers to clear the tents. Rides had already been stopped. With rain soaking the grounds and water runoff flowing onto the grounds, power was eventually shut off to the rides and other venues.
