Town of Waterford Chairman Tom Hincz added his name Monday night to a letter bound for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.

Rivermoor Golf Club is protesting the addition of a sidewalk associated with the Main Street Project, which is projected to start in the next year or so in Waterford. The sidewalk would be added to the golf club’s property, and replace a tree line.

So far, Rivermoor Managing Member Kevin Malchine and Hincz have signed the letter. There are hopes to have the Village of Waterford sign it, as well as add a letter from the Waterford Graded School District.

The letter states the tree line has served as an effective barrier between stray golf balls and traffic on Main Street since the club’s construction in the 1920s.

There are also concerns about the sidewalk creating an opportunity for students to cross the street at an uncontrolled intersection. A portion of Main Street has three schools adjacent to it – Fox River Middle School, and Evergreen Elementary School.

At Monday night’s Town Board meeting, Police Chief Tom Ditscheit concurred with the information in the letter.

“I just don’t see a need,” he explained.
