JEAN M. SORENSON

Easter Lily      Jean M. Sorenson, 95, Burlington, died peacefully on June 13, 2016. She was born in Racine on Jan. 9, 1921, to the late Edward and Julia (Moriarty) Chadek. She spent her early life in Racine where she graduated from Horlick High School, class of 1939. She further attended nursing school at St. Mary’s/Northwestern.

On Dec. 14, 1943, she married Dr. Alfred W. Sorenson. Following marriage they made their home in Racine before moving to Bohners Lake in 1969. Bill preceded her in death on June 29, 2003.

While living in Racine she was a Girl Scout and a Girl Scout leader and continued as a leader after they moved to Burlington. She was the past vice president of the Women’s Civic Counsel from 1958-1960 and GOP 1st vice past president in Racine in 1959. After moving to Bohners Lake she was the assistant treasurer and Women’s Club president.

She was a member of the Burlington Township Planning & Zoning Committee and the Racine County Human Resources foster care counselor for four years in the 1970s. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Jean was a homemaker and an incredible artist. She was one of the founding members of the Ladies of the Lake and the Tuesday Travel Club.

Survivors include her children, Barbara (Tom) Beck, Christina Sorenson (Bill Whithaus), Cynthia (Jim) Cesario, Margaret ‘Peg’ Sorenson and Peter (Barb) Sorenson; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Lois Chadek.

She was further preceded in death by her sister, Beatrice ‘Betty’ Adrainson, and brother, Edward ‘Butch’ Chadek.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to St. Mary’s Church or Love Inc.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Burlington Health & Rehab for their care and compassion over the past year and a half.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 29, at 11 a.m., at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Yamid Blanco presiding. Family and friends can visit on June 29 from 9:30 a.m., until the time of service in Good Shepherd Chapel. Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home & Crematory, Burlington, is serving the family.
