JOSEPH A. POPP

Easter Lily      Joseph Anthony Popp, 86, Burlington, died June 26, 2016, at his residence. He was born April 18, 1930, in Waterford, to the late Julian and Mary (Kosarog) Popp.

He graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic High School, Burlington. While in high school, he enjoyed boxing, and he also helped out on the family farm.

On Dec. 26, 1989, he married Sandra Krebs.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. This past April, he took the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. He spent his entire life living and working in Burlington and Waterford. He was a lifelong carpenter and was part owner of Jens-Popp Construction in Franklin, and Poppers Bar in Hales Corners. When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed flying his own plane, woodworking and gardening.

Survivors include his loving wife; children, Marty Popp, Manitowoc, Peggy Wiesend (Tom Carlsen), Waterford, Patti Schlaefer, Montello, Janice (Jerry) Aldrich, Burlington, Julie (Jeff) Ross, Green Bay; siblings, Julianna (Alvin) Moede, New Berlin, Mary Ignatowski, Pittsville, Jeanette Radtke, Greenfield, Rosemary Warner, Burlington, Margaret (Donald) Dezek, Kenosha, Florence (Edward) Chaulkin, Merrillan, Anne Antich, Darien, Ill., Agnes (Leo) Brenton, Burlington, Anthony (Patricia) Popp, Union Grove, Rita Feirn, Janesville, Theresa (Eugene) Lancour, Burlington; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; stepson, Jason (Melissa) Laux, Necedah; in-laws, Debbie (Dale) Gasser, Waukesha, April Krebs, Appleton, Mary Krebs, Minnesota, Wayne Krebs, Texas, Penny (Harry) Cramer, Hartland, and Susan (Wayne) Brunner, Waterford.

He was further preceded in death by his brother, Mike Popp, and brother-in-law, James Krebs.

Visitation for family and friends is Tuesday, July 5, at Miller-Reesman, Kasuboski, Haas & Dahl Funeral Home, 620 15th Ave., Union Grove, from noon-2 p.m. Memorial services will begin at 2 p.m., officiated by Fr. Jim Volkert. Inurnment with full military honors will immediately follow at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Union Grove.
