LUELLA HANCOCK

Easter Lily      Luella ‘Lou’ Hancock, 87, Burlington, died July 20, 2016, at Pine Brook Pointe. She was born Sept. 23, 1928, to the late Max and Elizabeth (Schuerman) Daniels in Brighton. Her early life was spent on the farm in Brighton where she attended grade school at St Francis Xavier Catholic School. She graduated from Burlington High School in 1948.

On Oct. 23, 1948, she married Nesbit (Nick) Hancock. They lived in the Bohners Lake area and operated The Palace Restaurant & Bowling Alley in partnership with William (Gabby) and Mildred Corbett for 10 years. Nick preceded her in death on Sept. 13, 1972.

In 1974, following the death of her husband, Lou, she moved to Burlington. She worked 22 years for the Burlington Area School District in the hot lunch program before retiring in 1994. She was a member of the Wisconsin and National Food Service Organizations. She was very active at her parish, St Charles Catholic Church and School, serving six years on the original school board. She was a member of the St. Ann’s Society, Eucharistic Lector and supporter of the RCIA programs for many years. She volunteered at St. Vincent De Paul, the Hospital Auxiliary and Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed card games, especially sheepshead and bridge. She loved traveling and enjoyed many trips with her brother, Paul.

Survivors include her children, Gerald (Peggy) Hancock, Daniel ‘Gov’ (Julie) Hancock, Beth (Sue Nevala) Hancock, Sue Hancock and David Silvers, Craig (Marian) Hancock; grandchildren, Katie (Eric) Reesman, Kelly (Eric) Schneider, Joe (Billie) Hancock, Barbara (Nick) Anders, Nick (Andrea) Hancock, Kim (Dan) Bell, Jill (Craig) Polifka; great-grandchildren, Cole, Max, Jake and Ella Reesman, Lauren and Andrew Schneider, Kennedy Hancock and Ellie Anders, Kylie, Calvin, Akira and Kaycie Hancock, Lexie and Lilly Bell and Carter and Payton Polifka; siblings, Rev. Paul Daniels and Carl and Shirley Daniels; sister-in-law, Margaret Hancock; other relatives and friends.

She was further preceded in death by her son, Mark; and sister, Bernice Vos.

The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff at Pine Brook Pointe Assisted Living Home and Serenity Hospice for their care and compassion while mom was in their care.

Memorials for Lou may be made to St. Charles Catholic Church and School.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 7 p.m., Wednesday, July 27, at St. Charles Catholic Church with the Rev. Jim Volkert officiating. Relatives and friends may visit with the family July 27, from 4-6:30 p.m., at church. Burial is Thursday, July 28, at 9 a.m., in St. Charles Cemetery. Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home, Burlington, is serving the family.
