DANIEL P. ROBERTS

Easter Lily      Daniel P. Roberts, 66, died July 21, 2016. The world has lost a genius. He fought cancer for more than two years, and spent his last days surrounded by loved ones.

Dan was the devoted husband of Kathy Roberts for 44 years, and the supportive father of Josh (Heather), Tyler (Caroline), and Griffin (Vanessa) Roberts, as well as a proud grandfather of eight.

He was born in Burlington on Jan. 11, 1950, along with his twin brother Don (preceded in death in 2010.) He grew up exploring the woods and waters of the area, trapping, hunting, and fishing. Later, he enjoyed working on cars and began building cabinets. He built a successful cabinet shop in Burlington where he specialized in creating custom kitchens and bathrooms, which he ran for more than 30 years.

Following a motorcycle crash in 2000, Dan closed his business and set up a hobby workshop in his garage, where he tinkered with a wide variety of projects, including wood turning, metal work, tool-making, and many others. It was well known that if you had a problem, Dan had a solution. It seemed there was nothing he couldn’t fix. His creativity in designing cabinets and furniture could not be measured. If there was a job that needed a specific tool, but no money to buy expensive equipment, he would pull out a welder, a couple pieces of scrap, and create a custom tool for the job. He enjoyed sharing his vast knowledge with others and helping to complete tricky tasks. His deep well of knowledge will be greatly missed by those who knew him best.

Along with his wife, sons, and grandchildren, Dan is survived by his sisters, Nancy (Wayne) Christman and Mary Lopez, and brother Floyd Roberts Jr., as well as sister-in-law, Jeanette (Don) Roberts.

He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Don, older brother, Tom, and parents, Floyd and Margaret Roberts.

A celebration of Dan’s life will be held Sunday, July 31, at The Ray Seidel building in Whitford Park, 652 N. River Road, Waterford. Service is 2-2:30 p.m., with celebration from 2:30-5 p.m. Dan’s ashes will be laid to rest at Rochester cemetery in a private memorial. Integrity Funeral Services, Waterford, is serving the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family are appreciated.
