Fire strikes Franciscan Missions office

Six residents were safely evacuated Tuesday morning when a fire broke out at the Franciscan Missions office and residence at 940 Browns Lake Dr., (Highway W) in Rochester, according to a news release issued by the Racine County Sheriff’s Office.

The county communications center received a call at 5:50 a.m. from the facility reporting fire alarms sounding and smoke in the building, according to the release.

Deputies and fire personnel responding to the scene observed heavy smoke and confirmed an active fire. Personnel and equipment from several area departments had been summoned to the scene and it was still considered an active fire shortly before 7 a.m., according to officials.

No injuries had been reported and the cause of the fire had not been determined as of Tuesday morning.
