Woman charged for choking boy

A Burlington woman is accused of choking the son of her boyfriend after that son reportedly tried the same thing on another child in the home.

Cassie Collins, 25, was charged in Racine County Circuit Court Monday with physical abuse of a child and strangulation and suffocation, both of which are felonies and could net her up to nine years in jail and a fine up to $20,000.

She was released on a $1,000 cash bond.

According to the criminal complaint, a friend called City of Burlington police to report the child had been choked and had handprints around his neck Saturday after the incident.

When asked, Collins told police that she asked another minor in the home to go wake up the child. When she went upstairs, she allegedly found the minor being choked by the child.

She allegedly told police she put her hands around the child’s neck and asked him “how he liked it.” She allegedly told police she held the child for about a minute, and accidentally scraped his neck with nails.

The two children told two different versions of the story. Police found bruises and several scratches around the neck of the child Collins’ allegedly choked.

When taken into custody, Collins allegedly looked at photos and told them she had no intention of harming the child.
