The City of Burlington Common Council approved a same-night request last week to fund an expansion of the city’s backup computer files.

City Treasurer Steve DeQuaker said the need for speed was due to a $3,000 savings on the $15,534 contract with Unitrend.

“This includes all the data the city has,” DeQuaker said.

Unitrend currently provides the backups for the city’s files, including a full system backup offsite and a drive backup. However, the city is only keeping two days’ worth of files immediately accessible.

The expansion will allow the city to keep five days’ backups immediately accessible. The money will come from the equipment replacement fund, with the potential to move it back to a line item in the budget after three years.

The new system will offer 12 terabytes of drive space and three years’ of support.

Other matters

The council also approved the installation of a “No Left Turn” sign at the north entrance of the new Aurora facility on Spring Valley Road and West State Street.

The Town of Lyons approved the sign on its land, and Aurora asked the city to place the additional sign.

The new facility will host an open house Oct. 1 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Aurora Health Center – Southern Lakes, which has a 709 Spring Valley Road, Burlington, address has been in the works for the better part of the last two years. Most of the jobs will transfer from the Aurora Memorial Hospital of Burlington or Aurora Lakeland Medical Center facilities, with a total of 250 employees on site.

Services at the new site include: audiology, ENT, endoscopy, gastroenterology, general surgery, hematology and medical oncology, imaging, lab, orthopedics, pain management, pharmacy, podiatry, rehabilitation services, sports medicine, urology, and women’s comprehensive imaging.

Also approved were the city’s application for an Urban Forestry Grant to deal with trees infested with the Emerald Ash Borer, as well as the planned Halloween trick or treat hours.

The city will hold trick or treat on Halloween, Monday, Oct. 31, from 6 to 8 p.m.
