Burlington enjoys conference tennis wins, Halbach leads boys volleyball

Making it look easy, the Burlington girls tennis team won a pair of Southern Lakes Conference matches in a three-day span by identical 7-0 scores on its home court.

In the victory over Waterford on Tuesday, Sept. 6, Emily Johnson (No. 3 singles) and Chloe Ohlfs (No. 4 singles) both won three-set matches. After losing her first set in a tiebreak, Johnson went on to defeat Miranda Vescio, 6-7 (6), 6-3, 6-0.

“She found her rhythm and cruised in the third (set),” Burlington coach Rose Dolatowski said.

Ohlfs held off Jordan Brekke, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.

Highlighting the Parents Night victory over Delavan-Darien on Thursday, Sept. 8, May Jagodzinski (No. 2 singles) improved to 5-0 in the SLC (6-1 overall) with her second 6-1, 6-0 triumph of the week.

“The girls played well, only giving up four games in the entire meet,” Dolatowski said.

Along with Johnson, Olfs and Jagodzinski, other flights to win two matches were Lacey Londre (No. 1 singles), Alyssa Caliva and Katie Daujotas (No. 1 doubles), Adrianna Castillo and Josie Klein (No. 2 doubles) and Grace Boyle and Whitney Miller (No. 3 doubles).

Caliva and Daujotas are 4-0 in the SLC as are Boyle and Miller.

 

Halbach leads boys volleyball

Brock Halbach contributed 16 kills and 10 blocks and David Paul added 58 assists to lead Burlington in the 24-team Racine Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 10 at Racine Park.

The Demons finished second in pool play. They were swept by eventual champion and state-ranked Kenosha Tremper (11-21, 15-21), split with Waukesha South (21-19, 19-21) and swept Madison East (21-15, 21-13). In the crossover round, Burlington lost to Westosha Central (20-22, 15-21).

On Thursday, Sept. 8, the Demons hosted Wilmot in their first Southern Lakes Conference match. Unable to sustain a strong start, Burlington was defeated, 25-9, 14-25, 21-25, 18-25.

Team leaders for the Demons were Paul (30 assists), Daniel Rummler (nine kills), Trey Krause (17 digs) and Drew Pesick (four blocks).
