LOUIS HAHN ROHR

Easter Lily      Louis Hahn Rohr, 93, died peacefully in his sleep on Sept. 9 2016. He was born in 1923 as the first of four children to the late Charles Davis and Dorothy Hahn Rohr. He spent his youth in Burlington, graduating from high school there in 1941. He was a brilliant student and gifted musician, playing a variety of instruments throughout high school and taught himself Greek while still very young.

He entered the UW–Madison in 1941. In 1942, he left the University to serve as a Naval Aviator in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. He returned from service in 1946, got married, and re-entered the University, graduating with an advanced degree in Physics in 1950.

He worked and taught for a time in Chicago until the late 1960s before moving to Rochester, N.Y., to work for Kodak and then continued to teach in several universities in the area. It was in Rochester that he began to put to good use the navigation training he had received while in the navy. His love of sailing caused him to ultimately leave teaching and devote himself full time to a 40+ year odyssey of studying and sailing Lake Ontario. The last six years of his life were spent closer to his brother in Texas. And, although he had begun experiencing signs of dementia, his wonderful sense of humor stayed with him until the end.

Survivors include his siblings, Davis Rohr, Austin, Texas, and sister, Lizann Disch, Oslo, Norway, and their families.

Pennington Funeral Home, San Marcus, Texas, served the family.
