FRANCES M. KOUKOL

Easter Lily      Frances M. Koukol, 96, West Salem, formerly of Waterford, died Sept. 17, 2016. She was born Feb. 27, 1920, in Oak Park, Ill., to the late Theodore and Julia (Eiduck) Palaske. She spent her early life in Oak Park where she graduated from high school.

On March 6, 1943, in Antioch, Ill., she married Joseph W. Koukol. Following marriage they made their home in Waterford. He preceded her in death on Aug. 13, 1994.

She worked at Waterford Bank, which later became State Financial Bank, starting as a teller and worked her way up to being vice president. She was proud to have worked over 60 years in the banking business.

She was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church and loved her community and work. She served as commissioner to the Sanitary District and was the ambassador for the Fireside Theater.

She loved spending time with her siblings and had traveled on many cruises with them, her favorite being a trip to Rome where she got to meet Pope John Paul II and be blessed by him. She also was allowed to sit in President Bush’s seat on Air Force One.

In her community work she was a large part of raising funds for the Waterford Library. She was most proud of her two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughter, JoAnn (John) Kresken; grandchildren, Barbara A. (Dr. Joseph) Krien, John J. (Ann) Kresken; great-grandchildren, Mitchell, Joshua, Kaitlyn, Nathan and Julia Krien; siblings, Daniel Palaske and Bernice Pape.

She was further preceded in death by her siblings, George Palaske, Theodore Palaske, Phillip Palaske and Alice Podboy.

The family would like to thank the staff at Mayo Health System in La Crosse for their care and compassion.

Memorials can be sent to either West Salem High School DECA Program or West Salem High School Fine Arts Program.

Services for Frances will be private. Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home & Crematory, Burlington, is serving the family.
