The Burlington boys’ co-op swim team, made up of swimmers from Burlington, Waterford, and East Troy, did something at the Southern Lakes Conference Meet Saturday at Jefferson High School. It defeated another SLC squad.

The Demons finished sixth out of seven teams, tallying 153 points. The seventh-place team was Jefferson, who had defeated Burlington earlier this year.

“We finally beat somebody,” head coach Denita Jones noted. “All the boys swam really well.”

Elkhorn with the SLC title with 579 points.

Just how well the Demon boys swam was shown in the fact that of the 16 Demon entries, 11 had season best times.

The best finish in any event was turned in by Matt Briggs, who finished third in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of one minute, 0.32 seconds. That was a season best, although not a lifetime best, for Briggs.

Briggs also was seventh in the 50-yard freestyle.

David Jones finished fourth in the 50-yard freestyle (23.95 seconds) and sixth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:10.49). Both of those times were lifetime bests for Jones.

The relay team of Jones, Anthony Krebs, Shaun Weber and Briggs finished sixth in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Their time of 3:45.76 was a season best.

No one else finished in the top 10 in any other event.

WIAA Division 1 sectionals will take place Saturday at Greendale High School.
