Village could pay more for animal shelter services in 2017

After receiving notice of a contractual increase in 2017, Village of Waterford officials are mulling the municipality’s future relationship with the Wisconsin Humane Society for animal shelter services.

Village Administrator Rebecca Ewald on Sept. 26 presented the Village Board with notification WHS intends to increase its contracted cost from $588.63 this year to $3,729.46 in 2017.

When she dug into the issue further, Ewald said WHS had taken in boxes of kittens, which drove up its own operating costs.

No formal action was taken at the board’s Sept. 26 meeting, though elected officials expressed a desire to look at ways of containing costs. Plans call for revisiting the issue at the board’s next meeting this coming Monday, Oct. 10.
