DONNA M. BARNES

Easter Lily      Donna M. Barnes, 87, Union Grove, died Nov. 21, 2016, at St. Monica’s Assisted Living, Racine. She was born July 1, 192,9 to the late Nemer and Emma (Schaumberg) Nelson in Kenosha. She spent her early life in Gurnee, Ill., where she attended school.

On Jan. 24, 1948, she married the late Roger Barnes at Union Grove Baptist Church. Following their marriage, they resided in the Union Grove area. He died June 30, 2003.

On Dec. 28, 2013, she married the late Willis Heimerl. He died April 21, 2016.

She worked at the Southern Center, H&R Block and in real estate. She was a member of Union Grove Congregational United Church of Christ and the Kiwanis Club. She enjoyed decorating cakes, making donuts, playing bingo, doing crosswords and jigsaw puzzles. She was an avid Packer and Cubs fan. She loved traveling, enjoying her trips to the casinos and touring the USA. She shared her love for traveling by going to Florida for Give Kids the World. She was always giving back to the community. More than anything Donna loved and cherished the time she spent with her family, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her children, Margaret Headley, Union Grove, Sharon (Robert) Sizemore, Kentucky, John (Kim) Barnes, Rochester, Roger Barnes, Texas, Frances (Deb) Barnes, Racine; grandchildren, Lynn (Ken) Vorlob, Nikki (Matt) Lui, Kim (Jamie) Terpstra, Douglas (Laurie) Sizemore, Cozette Sizemore Davis, Chris (Tammy) Barnes, Katie (Ken) Brossman, Mike (Jen) Barnes and Jessica Sizemore; 20 great-grandchildren; siblings, Janice Sandberg and Richard ‘Uncy’ Nelson; nieces; nephews; relatives and friends.

She was further preceded in death by her daughter, Connie (Jim ) Baker; brother, Harold (Doris) Nelson; sisters, Joyce (Phil) Burbach and Beverly (Joe) Kostka; grandsons, William and Bobby Lee Sizemore and Johnny Barnes Jr.; great-grandchildren, Brett Sizemore, Sydney Terpstra and Max Barnes; in-laws, Jim Sandberg, and Joan Nelson.

Funeral services are Friday, Nov. 25, at 12:30 p.m., at Union Grove Congregational United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Manda Stack officiating. Relatives and friends may visit with the family Nov. 25 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., at the church. Burial will follow service in Sunset Ridge Memorial Park, Kenosha. Polnasek-Daniels Funeral Home & Crematory, Union Grove, is serving the family.

The family has suggested memorials be made to either Union Grove Congregational UCC or St. Monica’s Senior Living Home.
