Seven Wolverines wrestled for titles and Waterford won the team title Saturday at the E.H. Stech Invitational at West Allis Central High School.

Waterford wrestles Dec. 29 and 30 in the Lourdes Academy On the Water Classic at UW-Oshkosh.

The Wolverines lost 43-23 at Elkhorn Dec. 15 in a Southern Lakes Conference dual meet, which coach Tom Fitzpatrick said motivated Waterford to excel at the Stech.

The Stech is typically a two-day event, but was condensed to one day this year due to inclement weather.

Jared Krattiger, wrestling at 182 pounds, won his third Stech title and improved to 11-0. Krattiger beat Dustin Diebitz of West Allis Central 16-4 for the title.

Sam Winski (8-4, 126) pinned his way through the tournament, and pinned Kevin Tamboli of Germantown in 3:52 in the title match.

The Wolverines’ AJ Guardiola improved to 12-0 after beating Germantown’s Mason Wheeler 9-3 for the championship at 145.

Jordan Danowski is now 10-1 after beating South Milwaukee’s Ted Swanson 14-5 in the title match at 160.

“Jordan continues to impress, with his fast-paced matches, and is proving time and time again he has a gas tank like no other,” Fitzgerald said. “He just keeps going and going.”

Austin Thomas (152), Tanner Cadman (170), and EJ Mastrocola (285) finished second in their weight classes, and Anthony Christenson (138) and Cody Welker (113) finished third.

Waterford scored a team total of 247 points. Coleman, ranked third in the state in Division 3 in the most recent Wisconsin Wrestling Online team rankings, finished second (227).

Fitzgerald said the dual meet against the Elks did not go according to plan for Waterford.

“We lost the dual 43-23, but it was actually much closer than the score indicated,” Fitzgerald said. “There were three matches we felt we could have won, which would have given us a 32-31 win in the dual instead of the loss.”

Elkhorn opened with wins in the first three matches against the Wolverines, and won four of the final five matches.

Guardiola (145), Thomas (152), Dalton Danowski (170), Krattiger (195) and Welker (113) won matches for Waterford against Elkhorn.
