JAMES P. MARTIN

James P. Martin, 48, Burlington, died Dec. 28, 2016, at Seasons Hospice in Waukesha. He was born in Pocatello, Idaho, to James S. Martin and Margaret (Dwyer) Martin on Oct. 13, 1968.

He graduated from Pocatello High School in 1986, and along with his high school sweetheart, Kathleen Ballard, attended Gonzaga University. He double majored in political science and history and minored in philosophy. They both graduated in 1989. A week after graduation Jim and Kathy were married in Pocatello, Idaho.

They moved to Milwaukee for Jim to attend Marquette University Law School. Upon graduation he became an Assistant District Attorney in Walworth County, then subsequently went into private practice where he tried to help people through their difficult times.

Survivors include his wife; children James and Stephanie (Lowry), David and Eilis (Smith), Jonathan, Margaret, Thomas, and Karina; his brother, Michael and his family of Denver, Colo.

He became somewhat infamous for his reply, ‘truly blessed’ as he continued to express until the very end. ALS is a difficult illness, but his faith is what sustained him.

Funeral services were Dec. 31, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Lyons. Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home, Burlington, served the family. Jim requested that donations be made to his son Thomas’ Eagle Scout project made out to troop 336, or the Wisconsin chapter of the ALS association.

We would like to send a special thank you to the people who walked with us for ALS, and continued to walk every year in Jim’s honor, the staff at Seasons Hospice, and the Tri-Parish Life Teen leader team and our many friends and family who have offered unconditional love and support.
