Coach Lance Bestland said the Wolverines’ pitching and hitting is starting to come around. The rest of the Southern Lakes Conference might be so advised.
The Waterford Union High School baseball team outscored its opponents 24-0 last week and won three games.
The Wolverines beat St. Catherine’s 12-0 April 29 and beat Catholic Central 2-0 April 28. Both games were at Burlington High School as part of the Racine County Showcase.
Waterford won 10-0 April 25 at home in a SLC game against Delavan-Darien.
The Wolverines (7-4, 4-3 SLC) played Badger (7-3, 3-3 SLC) Tuesday at home and Thursday at Lake Geneva in SLC games. Waterford plays a doubleheader Saturday at Slinger (4-9).
Waterford jumped on St. Catherine’s (1-6) early, and led 8-0 after the third inning. Waterford scored four more runs in the fifth.
Ryan Jungbauer pitched four no-hit innings and struck out four. Devin Baumgartner pitched an inning in relief and allowed the Angels their only hit.
Aaron Chapman went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs scored and two RBI. Nicholas Dugandzic finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Matt Korman drove in two runs and stole two bases.
Bestland said the Wolverines pitched to only 23 batters against Catholic Central (5-4), and allowed the Hilltoppers one hit.
Waterford scored twice in the second inning. Chapman tallied two hits, a run scored and a RBI. Jungbauer finished with a hit and a RBI.
Nolan De Greef pitched four innings and Austin DeGreef three and combined for seven strikeouts.
Waterford led 2-0 before scoring three runs in the bottom of the third inning and taking control of its game against Delavan-Darien (4-7, 2-5 SLC).
The Wolverines added four runs in the fifth and another in the sixth before the game was called because of the 10-run rule.
Jungbauer scattered six hits over six innings of pitching and struck out nine.
Korman drove in three runs and Paul Schmidt two. Dugandzic, Brendon Snyder and Zak Ksobiech each tallied two hits.
