Work on the Village of Waterford’s River East shoreline project along the Fox River has begun, and municipal officials say they have taken a series of steps to ensure residents, business owners and visitors are kept abreast of progress.

Work on the extensive project began last month and is expected to continue through October. The first leg of the work, which is underway, is occurring near North Division and East Division streets.

Village Administrator Rebecca Ewald discussed the early stages of the project at a Village Board meeting April 24.

“Staff meet weekly with the engineer and construction supervisor to review the project and receive updates on project schedule, issues, plans and progress,” Ewald said.

As work shifts in the months ahead, Ewald said notification updates will be sent out to inform residents and other interested persons of road closures, parking lot availability and other related logistical issues.

The village has created a page on its website with progress updates. It can be accessed at www.waterfordwi.org/450/River-East-Project.

In other business, the Village Board:

  • Approved Eagle Scout Trenton Bowser’s project, calling for a pedestrian bridge that will extend from the shoreline of Village Hall Park to the small island within the Fox River.

Bowser’s proposal went before the village Public Works and Utilities Committee last month with favorable recommendation before receiving full board support.

  • Approved the installation of a below ground conduit in Village Hall Park as part of a plan to enhance visitor safety during the outdoor River Rhythms concerts this summer.

The plan calls for running cords through the conduit to the stage, which would eliminate a trip hazard.

The village has pledged up to $500 and labor for the conduit installation. Any additional expenses would be the responsibility of River Rhythms’ organizers as part of the plan set in motion.
