Burlington

It’s our preview and you’re invited

Milwaukee television show host John McGivern clowns around with the cast of the Haylofters production of “Jesus Christ Superstar” last summer. The Malt House Theater is one of several local attractions McGivern visited for the taping of his show “Around the Corner.”

Burlington is focus of MPTV program; local showing is Sunday

Local residents will have a chance to preview the Milwaukee Public Television show highlighting the Burlington area on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Veterans Terrace.

The event is free and open to the public.

Milwaukee actor John McGivern, the host of “Around the Corner” – a 30-minute show that takes an in-depth look at communities throughout southeastern Wisconsin – will be on hand for the showing.

In his visit to Burlington last summer, McGivern spoke with members of the Aquaducks, as well as taking a look around ChocolateFest – which became a focus of the show not only because of the large crowds it draws, but the community causes it supports.

McGivern also visited The Malt House Theater for the Haylofters’ production of “Jesus Christ Superstar,” as well as the local baseball diamond and Fred’s Parkview for a burger.

The highlight of the episode just may be McGivern’s attempt to water ski with Brown’s Lake residents Kevin and Carin Bird.

Mayor Bob Miller gets a chance to close the show when he’s asked by McGivern to list the many things that make Burlington special in 30 seconds.

“It’s not easy,” Miller said Monday. “I needed a lot more time than that.”

Seating for the preview will be on a first-come, first-served basis, and McGivern will take questions and comments after the show.

The Burlington episode of the series is scheduled for broadcast Thursday, March 8, at 7:30 p.m. on Milwaukee Public Television Channel 10.
