Rochester will continue its longstanding relationship with its municipal property assessor, following a recent decision by village officials.

The village re-upped with Kathy Romanak for a one-year term that began June 1 and runs through May 31, 2018. The Village Board approved the contract May 22.

Romanak, who has been Rochester’s assessor since 1994, will receive $14,800 for her services. Clerk-Treasurer Betty Novy said the compensation plan is a $400 increase from Romanak’s 2016-17 pay.

In addition to the standard protocol, including liaising with the village and state Department of Revenue, Romanak will conduct re-evaluations as required for specific property classifications, including those deemed agriculture, forest and swamp/waste.

In other recent business, the Rochester Village Board:

  • Approved changing the liquor license agent for Bhagvati Foods LLC, which does business as Rochester Food and Beverage, 2819 Beck Drive.

In a letter to the village, Jagdish Patel said he was applying to serve as the business’ agent. The prior agent, Patel said, “admittedly engaged in repeated misconduct.”

The former employee’s list of offenses, Patel said, included misappropriating company funds, allowing unauthorized persons to enter the premises and handing sensitive information to unauthorized persons.

“Because of his misconduct, our store’s and village’s name came in to print and electronic media, which makes bad name for our store,” Patel wrote in the letter.

  • Issued a $26,622 contract to Lake Delton-based Scott Construction for chip sealing on a number of village streets.

The list encapsulated in the contract includes Old Orchard Way, Hunters Glen Road, Royal Hill Road, Royal Hill Court and North River Road, south of Highway 36.

The board in its recent motion also instructed Christopher Birkett, public works director, to obtain cost estimates for additional chip sealing work on Abbey Lane, Fox View Drive, Ridge Line Road and Vergon Drive.

“This cost will be reported back to the (Public Works) Committee at the July meeting,” Novy said.
