RICHARD A. SCHLITZ

Richard A. Schlitz, 72, of Burlington, passed away Friday, June 9, 2017, at Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center, Milwaukee.

Born in Burlington, on Oct. 10, 1944, he was the son of Edward and Amelia (nee Richter) Schlitz. He was a lifetime resident of Burlington, graduating from Burlington High School in 1963; furthering his education at Waterloo Barber College, graduating in 1965. Dick was employed at Billman’s Barber Shop until May 1972.

On May 1, 1971, at St. Charles Catholic Church in Burlington, he was united in marriage to Deborah A. Lasco. Dick worked for Epping Buick-Oldsmobile and Lynch Chevrolet, Buick and GMC from June 1972 until his retirement in 2008. He was a member of Burlington Jaycees, Buick Sale Master and Oldsmobile Vanguard of which he received numerous awards throughout his selling career of over 36 years.

Dick helped lead the American Cancer Golf Outing at Rivermoor Country Club, a cause very dear to him. He was a former member of St. Charles Church. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, Green Bay Packers fan and loved to play golf and fish. He was lucky enough to play Pebble Beach in California and Arnold Palmer’s Bay Hills Country Club in Florida. Dick was a golf instructor at Gateway Technical College at the Burlington campus for more than 10 years.

In 1973, while selling a Buick to a customer who was an administrator at Burlington Rehab, formally known as Mt. Carmel, he was told that they needed a barber for “just a couple of months.” He was still actively cutting hair there until recently.

Dick loved and greatly enjoyed his fishing, be it on the local lakes with Jeremy Fowler, Canadian fishing trips with his brother Wayne and friends for more than 25 years, or Back Bay fishing in Florida for the last five years with his good friends, Jim Bridge and Lee Gale.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Deborah L. Schlitz; brother, Wayne Schlitz; nieces and nephews, other relatives and the many friends he made through his professional, as well as his everyday life. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jack Schlitz; sister and brother-in-law, Roz and Dick Foltz; and sister-in-law, Nancy Schlitz.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff associated with Aurora Health Care for their wonderful care and compassion.

Special thanks to Jeremy Fowler and his family for always being there for Dick and Deborah.

Services will be held on Monday, June 19, at 7 p.m. at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home, Burlington, with Father Joe Debski officiating. Visitation will be held Monday, June 19, at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until the time of the service.
