Parking dos and don’ts tweaked in areas of Village of Waterford

After reviewing recommendations and combing through logistics, Village of Waterford officials have approved a series of parking-related changes in various corners of the community.

The Village Board on June 12 adopted a resolution that amends the municipality’s overall street and parking regulation schedule. The extensive document, included in the overall village code, outlines where parking is permissible and under what circumstances.

The board as part of its motion approved three specific changes, and new signage will be installed to reflect the recent decisions.

Each of the three changes will affect the streets differently. Some of the schedule’s tweaks alter how long a motorist can park his or her car, while one of the changes outright prohibits parking under all circumstances.

The first change affects River Road, parallel to Whitford Park. A two-hour parking provision has been placed on both sides of the street throughout the day.

Village officials have been empowered to enforce the two-hour restriction at all times.

Changes also have been implemented in areas of Jefferson Street, where parking is now prohibited at all times in one area.

The board in its motion agreed to changes on Jefferson Street, west of its intersection with North Street.

The village’s last change of the trio of tweaks impacts how long parking can occur in municipal parking lots. Parking in the lots has been capped at 24 hours under the new provisions.

In a memo, Village Administrator Rebecca Ewald said the length of permissible parking in municipal lots was previously set at a 48-hour threshold.

Waterford has four municipal parking lots – Village Hall Park, in-between the library and village hall, on North 2nd Street and behind businesses on East Main Street.

Ewald said each of the scenarios went through a vetting process and were reviewed by the village’s Public Works and Utilities Committee in mid-May.
