ARTHUR G. YANKE


Arthur G. “Art” Yanke, 77, Burlington, died March 10, 2012, at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Milwaukee.

He was born Jan. 28, 1935, in Genoa City, one of 18 children to the late Herbert and Mary (Gill) Yanke. He spent his early life in Genoa City and Pell Lake and had proudly served in the National Guard.

He was lucky enough to have had two loves of his life, first his wife of 42 years Virginia Lemuell. They were married on Jan. 16, 1954, at Union Grove United Methodist Church. She preceded him in death on April 13, 1995. He then met Lou Baumeister, and they had spent the past 16 years together.

He drove truck for 45 years and retired from USF Holland. He was a member of the Burlington Masonic Lodge 28, Teamsters Local 200 and the Town of Burlington Fire Department Company 3, where he volunteered for 14 years. He was an avid Packer and NASCAR fan and enjoyed playing euchre and doing jigsaw puzzles. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include his loving partner, Lou of Rochester; children, Lynn (Mike) Zivkovich, Rochester, Mona (Tim) Gerth, Burlington, Jef Yanke, Milwaukee, Dawn (Paul) Yanke, Rochester; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several brothers and sisters.

He was further preceded in death by his son, Scott; and brothers and sisters.

Visitation is Thursday, March 15, from 4 p.m. until time of services at 7 p.m., at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home, 625 Browns Lake Drive, Burlington, followed by a Masonic service. Inurnment is at Westlawn Memorial Park on Tuesday, March 20, at 10 a.m.

The family would like to express a special thank you to the seventh floor staff at St. Luke’s Medical Center for all their care and compassion they gave to Art.
