New Haylofters show mines love, laughter

Julie Patten and Tom Deischel play two middle-aged daters fantasizing about what they could be like if they were brave on a date in the Haylofters’ production of “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change.” The production opens Oct. 6. The humors and sorrows – not to mention the complications – of love, relationships and marriage are tackled with biting (and hilarious) accuracy in Joe DiPietro’s “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change” – the fall production by The Haylofters of Burlington.

The show will run Oct. 6-8, Oct. 14-16 and Oct. 21-23. Evening shows begin at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. Tickets are $12, and can be purchased at the Malt House box office before the show, at The Grater Tater (go to www.gratertater.com for hours), or online at www.haylofters.com.

DiPietro’s show – he authored both the book and the musical – touches on the frustrations of dating, parental expectations, taking the next step into marriage and then everything on up. The show also tackles the complications of, well, sex – or the lack thereof – children and in-laws.

With several different age ranges represented – the kids are played by Meg Ledwitch and Mackenzie Patten, the young couple by John Kobernick and Vanessa Schroeder, the middle-aged couples by Preston Smith and Julie Patten and Tom Deichsel and Deb Davis, and the older couple by Don Fresen and Bev Sargent.

Jesse Hurst directs this performance, with musical direction done by Fresen.
