For the second straight year, Burlington High School graduate Megan Wallace is an All-American.

After taking eighth at the NCAA Division 3 nationals as a freshman for UW-Eau Claire last year, Wallace recently took third overall.

Competing in the Pentathlon, which is a combination of 60 meter hurdles, high jump, shot put, long jump and 800 meter run, Wallace took second in the shot put with a throw of 37-11.25 and third in the long jump with a 17-08.75, a personal record (PR).

She also PR’d in the high jump (5-2.5, 5th) and 800 meter (2:28, 9th).

Wallace took 12th in the 60 meter with a 9.47.

“I am really happy with how everything finished toward the end of the season, especially at nationals,” Wallace said Tuesday. “Nationals is such a unique meet to be able to compete with so many other great athletes and to know you are just as good as they are, and to realize you are one of the top athletes in the nation is quite amazing.”

“Being a multi-athlete is still new to me, but I am loving the opportunity to try new events.”

Wallace, who was named the 2016 Burlington Standard Press Female Athlete of the Year, took second overall at the WIAC conference championships in February.

She was first in the long jump and shot put and second in the 800.

Now, it is time to focus on the outdoor season.

“I am going to continue to work hard, as now I know things I need to work on, and I am hoping to keep improving on my scores from last year,” Wallace said.

“It’s just an awesome opportunity to be able to run, jump and throw every day.”

Fitzpatrick Earns Spot on NCGA All-Championship Team

Bailey Fitzpatrick, a native of Burlington, WI, and graduate of Burlington High School, is one of six members of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater gymnastics team who earned recognition on the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association’s first-ever All-Championship Team based on their performance during the regular season and during Saturday’s Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship/NCGA West Regional.

The multiple-time state champion was a standout for the Burlington/Badger/Wilmot (BBW) gymnastics squad.

Senior Erika Briscoe (Solon, Iowa/Solon), junior Lauren Marshall (Winthrop Harbor, Ill./Zion-Benton Township) and freshman Abigail Missiaen (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) represent the Warhawks on vault, while senior Fitzpatrick and sophomore Blaise Wilson (Thornton, Colo./Legacy) earned spots on uneven bars. Senior Frankee Hutton-Lau (Shakopee, Minn./Main Street School of Performing Arts) was named to the All-Championship team for balance beam.

The newly-implemented All-Championship Team recognizes the top 10 from each region, on each event, based on the top five finishers in each regional tournament, plus the top five highest season average scores going into the tournament.

All honorees will be recognized at the NCGA Championship on March 23.
