      The Burlington High School baseball program officially crossed the threshold into dynasty territory this week when the varsity squad qualified for its fourth-straight Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association state tournament.

The Demons will begin their quest for the state title Tuesday morning when they face Green Bay Preble in the Division 1 quarterfinals at Fox Cities Stadium near Appleton.

Burlington’s sectional victory and their attempt for the state title top the news in this week’s edition of the Burlington Standard Press.

  • CONCERT SERIES TO OPEN: B-Town Sounds summer concert series returns to Echo Veterans Memorial Park in Burlington with Party of Ten opening the eighth annual installment on June 13. The free summer concert series presented by B-Town Sounds, a nonprofit organization, started in 2012 and has been supported by local business sponsors and volunteers.
  • LIFE SENTENCE: Nathan Kivi, convicted of killing two brothers in Twin Lakes, will spend the rest of his life behind bars after he was sentenced in Kenosha County Circuit Court on June 3.
  • LOCAL DOCTOR DIES: Dr. Scott Beatse, a longtime obstetrician and gynecologist at Aurora Lakeland Medical Center in Elkhorn, died Sunday morning of an apparent heart attack during a triathlon.
