Wins at No. 4 singles and No. 1 doubles were not enough to get the Burlington High School boys’ tennis team its first dual win of the season as the Demon boys fell 5-2 to Mukwonago April 4 in non-conference action.

“Just can’t put it together,” head coach Ken Savaglia said. “Thought I would get the (No.) 3 doubles, but they struggled in the second set.”

Savaglia flipped two of his doubles players, moving Austin Petrie from No. 2 to No. 3, and Matt Traber from No. 3 to No. 2.

Traber and Caleb Hewitt lost 6-3, 6-3; while Petrie and Sam Fish won the first set 6-3, but lost the next two sets 6-3, 6-4.

At No. 1 doubles, Corey Caldwell and Sam Greening won 6-1, 7-5.

The other Demon win came at No. 4 singles where Brenden Novak won 6-2, 6-1.

Andy Schmidt, Alex Oldenburg and Conor Schultz all lost in straight sets at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively. Oldenburg had two close sets, losing 6-4, 6-4.

The loss drops Burlington to 0-2 on the year.
