With only one golfer breaking 100 on the scorecard, the Union Grove High School boys’ golf team finished in last place at the Southern Lakes Conference Golf Major No. 1 Tuesday.

Played at Ives Grove Golf Course, the Bronco boys had a team total of 402. Waterford won the meet with a 328.

“Overall we really struggled today,” noted head coach Eric Swanson. “The course was playing very long and we are not very long hitters, so that didn’t help.”

Alex Wall led the Broncos with a 92 on the par-72 course. He fired a 46 on both nines.

“Alex had a very solid round,” Swanson said. “He managed to avoid having a big hole, which the others could not do.”

Tom Kwon carded a 102, Ben Spiering a 103 and B.J. Henderson a 105. The fifth Bronco golfer – Brett VanVreede – shot a 123.

The top four scores count toward the team score.

Also competing for the Bronco boys were Jacob Cacciotti (110) and Grayson Catania (116).

Panther Invitational

Union Grove tallied 139 points. Waterford won the event, carding a 114. Wilmot fired a 131 and Elkhorn 141.

Wall and Henderson teamed up to shoot a 45 in the 2-man alternate shot. Aaron Ryan and Peterson combined in the 2-man scramble for a 46, while Cacciotti and Spiering paired up in the 2-man best ball for a 48.
