RUTH M. JOHNSON


Ruth Marion (Hanson) Johnson, Mrs. Nelson H., 97, of Waukesha, formerly of Waterford, died peacefully on April 17, 2012.

She was born on Nov. 25, 1914, on the Hanson Farm in the Town of Norway, to the late Albert and Clara (Ludwig) Hanson. She attended Hillcrest School and was a 1932 Waterford High School graduate. She attended  Wisconsin Commercial Academy in Milwaukee were she learned secretary training. She worked 63 years, six months and 12 days as a legal secretary for her husband Attorney Nelson H. Johnson, who preceded her in death.

A lifelong member of Norway Lutheran Church, she was the first woman elected to the church council. She enjoyed working as a legal secretary and always expressed how she enjoyed filling out tax returns. It is very fitting that she gains eternal peace on Tax Day 2012.

Survivors include her stepdaughter, Karen (Carl) Engelhardt; granddaughters, Kirsten and Katie Engelhardt; sister-in-law, Ruth Hanson; nieces, Ellen (Cliff) Gald, Jean (Keith) Belter, Eileen Johns; nephews, John Stalbaum, Thomas (Joanne) Hanson, and Brian (Joan) Johnson; grandnieces; grandnephews; other relatives and friends.

She was further preceded in death by her sister, Lucille Stalbaum; brother, Alton Hanson; and grandnephew, Benjy Belter.

Funeral services were April 23, at Norway Lutheran Church, Wind Lake. Burial was in North Cape Lutheran Church Cemetery. Mealy Funeral Home, Waterford, assisted the family.
