VIRGINIA LUERSSEN


Virginia “Jean” Luerssen, 97, Waterford, died May 6, 2012.

She was born to the late John and Martha Domek on March 5, 1915, in Chicago.

On March 2, 1935, she married James T. Luerssen in Chicago. She was a member of New Beginnings Christian Church in Waterford. They moved from Palatine, Illinois, to Waterford on Feb. 23, 1951. He preceded her in death. She retired from Southern Colony in Union Grove as a cook. She helped with the farm work, was a homemaker, and enjoyed crocheting, knitting and quilting. She made mittens and caps for needy children for many years. She also enjoyed gardening and playing the piano and organ.

Survivors include her son, Steve, Waterford; daughter, Marjorie (Noel) Whiting, Racine; daughter-in-law, Jean Luerssen, Waterford; grandsons, Joseph (Tina) Whiting, Racine, Daniel Whiting, Racine, Chad (Holly) Luerssen, Antigo; granddaughters, Joan (Mark) Parsons, Ashley Kohler; great-grandchildren, Rory (Molly) Parsons, Brae (Trygve) Kittleson, Celina (Matt) Honzelka, Landyn Kohler, Zachary, Abbey and Nicholas Luerssen; great-great-grandchildren, Kaysi, Noah, Corbin, Tyler, Tanner, McKayla and Madison; other relatives and friends.

She was further preceded in death by her son, John; daughter, Joan; grandson, John “Jimmy;” daughter-in-law, Kathy Luerssen; sister, Evelyn; brothers, Jack and Daniel Domek; sister-in-law, Jane (Domek) Duenn.

Visitation is Saturday, May 12, from 11 a.m.-12:45 p.m., with services at 1 p.m., with the Rev. James Cantrell officiating, at Mealy Funeral Home, 225 W. Main St., Waterford. Interment will follow in German Settlement Cemetery in Spring Prairie.

    She was a great sister-in-law and aunt. We always had a lot of fun together and she will be greatly missed.
