ELIZABETH A. SMITH


Elizabeth Anna “Betty” Smith, 88, Burlington, died May 16, 2012, at Geneva Lake Manor. She was born on Feb. 19, 1924, in Goodman, to the late Emil and Agnes (Lundberg) Jensen. She spent her early life and received her education in the Goodman and Athelstane area in Marinette County.

On Sept. 23, 1950, in Merrill, she married Stanley Smith. Following marriage they made their home in Burlington. He preceded her in death on Dec. 22, 2004.

She taught school for the Merrill School District in a one-room schoolhouse. She was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church, where she had taught Sunday school. She loved sports, especially watching her grandchildren play them. She was an avid fan of the Milwaukee Brewers and the Green Bay Packers. She loved cooking and baking and canning her own produce from the garden.

Survivors include her children, Scott (Christine) Smith, Burlington, Jean (Wayne) Metzdorf, Sun Prairie, Larry (Chris) Smith, Racine, David (Ann) Smith, Burlington, Steve (Kathy Hartlage), Burlington; grandchildren, Ryan, Michael, Laura, Sarah, Kevin and Carolyn Smith, Jacob and Jonathan Smith and Josh Shanahan; sisters, Norma (Jim) Delpire and Beatrice Wagner; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

She was further preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Bob Wagner.

Visitation is Thursday, May 24, from 4 p.m. until time of memorial service at 5 p.m., at Mt. Zion Christian Church in Lake Geneva. The Rev. Dave Adams will officiate. A private burial will take place at a later date. Schuette-Daniels Family Funeral Home, Burlington, is assisting the family.
