Standouts for the Week of May 25, 2012

Male Athlete of the Week

Bryce Rudebeck, Waterford Union High School track and field: Rudebeck and Union Grove’s Cassy Goodrich achieved a difficult trio at the Southern Lakes Conference championships last week: sweeping the sprint events.

Rudebeck won the 100-meter dash in 11.49, the 200-meter dash in 22.76 and the 400-meter dash in 50.79.

Rudebeck qualified for sectionals in the 200 and 400 Monday afternoon.

Also considered: Luke Syens, Burlington High School baseball.

Female Athlete of the Week

Cassy Goodrich, Union Grove Union High School: Goodrich and Waterford’s Bryce Rudebeck achieved a difficult trio at the Southern Lakes Conference championships last week: sweeping the sprint events.

Goodrich won the 100-meter dash in 13.02, the 200-meter dash in 26.07 and the 400-meter dash in 58.70.

She also qualified for sectionals in all three events Monday afternoon.

Also considered: Bekah Shellberg, Catholic Central High School softball.

 

Team of the Week

Catholic Central High School softball: The Lady ’Toppers made a late run for the Midwest Classic Conference crown, in the end falling just one game short of champion Kenosha St. Joseph.

But in making that run, the Lady ’Toppers won 12 straight games, including avenging shutout losses to Racine St. Lutheran and St. Joe’s from earlier in the season.

Catholic Central defeated Lutheran 8-1 and St. Joe’s 7-2 last week, and then pushed Division 1 No. 2 Kenosha Bradford before falling 2-1 in a tournament in Kenosha.

CCHS rebounded by beating Cedarburg 9-2.

 

Trapshooting

As the weather warms up, so do the scores on the trap fields in the SE WI SCTP Youth Trapshooting Conference. Just one week remains in the 10-week conference schedule paring Southeast Wisconsin High Schools in competitive clay target competitions.

The Demons of Burlington came up one bird short of perfection, breaking 124 of 125 targets in downing Muskego. Cody Schilz, Josh Crisimagna, Christian Jensen and Devon Stickrod all had perfect scores. Muskego was led by Chris DeWinter’s 21.

Wilmot kept pace just one point behind Burlington by posting another big score of 121. Joseph Asleson and John Mcrae’s perfect rounds to led the Panthers past the Cudahy Packers 121-104. The Packers were led by Logan Balow’s 22.

In the tightest match of the week, Union Grove snuck past Waterford 118-117. Ryan Meyer and Ross DeJarlais both posted 25s to lead the Broncos while Travis Schecterle went clean for the Wolverines.

Milwaukee Marquette also broke 118 targets to hold off Racine Lutheran’s 114. Alex Borden lead the Hilltoppers with 25 straight while Dan Roeder led the Crusaders with 24.

Lake Geneva Badger was led by Justin Thueck’s 25 en route to downing Oconomowoc 113-105.  Dalton Dunham and Brentt Hellekson led the Cooney with a pair of 22s.

Central fell to the conference average of 112 posting a score of 107 for the week. The Falcons were led by a trio of 22s posted by Bradley Stahmer, Kyle Brewer and Kody Willkomm.

This weeks winners in JV were Jefferson led by Cole Mewis 25, Marquette, Waterford, Wilmot, Badger and Burlington. Dalton Karrow posted a 25 for Central.

Jared Hahn of Burlington carded the only perfect round for the Intermediates this week.

Conference action will be complete next week and there will be a one-week break for graduations before the SE WI SCTP Conference Shootout on June 8-9 at the Waukesha Gun Club.
