In the opening game of the Southern Lakes Conference tournament, the Burlington High School girls’ soccer team faced a tough Lake Geneva Badger squad and came out on the short end of a 2-1 score.

Going into the tournament, head coach Joel Molitor felt his team had a very real chance of winning the tournament, but Badger cut those hopes off.

After a scoreless first half, Badger took a 1-0 lead just one minute into the second half.

It stayed that way until Emily Mundt tied it in the 63rd minute on an unassisted goal.

Regulation ended with the 1-1 tie, sending the game into overtime.

Badger won it just four minutes into the first overtime period.

Vs. Delavan-Darien

The Demon girls battled league-leading Delavan-Darien to a 1-1 tie Thursday at home.

The tie was the first Southern Lakes Conference game this season that Delavan did not win.

Both teams scored their goals in the first half, with Maddy Harry getting the Burlington goal with a assist from Emily Mundt.

Neither team scored in the second half or both overtime periods.

“They played really well,” head coach Joel Molitor said. “My girls are playing as well as I could ask them to play. They are tremendous on the ball. They’re passing so well, moving really well.”

The WIAA Division 1 regionals begin Thursday, May 31. Seeds have not yet been determined, so the Demon girls do not yet know who they will play.
