Harold Martin Oldenburg Sr., 93, Burlington, died May 31, 2012, at Kindred Care Center Kenosha.
He was born on March 24, 1919, in the town of Norway, Racine County, to the late Alfred and Esther (Krogstad) Oldenburg. He graduated from the Racine County School of Agriculture in 1937.
A World War II veteran, he served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to1945, as Combat Medic in the 32nd Armored Regiment, 3rd Armored Division, serving during the Battle of the Bulge and four other battles in France, Belgium and Germany. He had been a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans for many years as well as the Military Order of the Purple Heart.
On Dec. 22, 1951, he married Lorraine Brook in Waukesha. They had lived in Twin Lakes, Randall and then moved to Brighton where they resided for many years. In recent years they lived in Burlington. In 1981 he retired after working 22 years at American Motors Corp. in Kenosha.
Survivors include his wife; daughters, Margaret Hakomaki of Waukesha, Mary Dexter of Kansasville; sons, James (Christine) Oldenburg of Lake Geneva, Harold (Bonnie) Oldenburg Jr. of Burlington, Richard (Rocio) Oldenburg of Burlington; grandchildren, Shelly Oldenburg, Thomas (Brenna) Oldenburg, Angela Traughber, Nikolaos Hakomaki, Erika Oldenburg, Ashley Oldenburg and Alexander Oldenburg; great-grandchildren, Alayna, Frank, Elliot and Sullivan; and sister, Doris Knutson.
He was further preceded in death by his brothers Donald, Ralph and Raymond.
Visitation is Wednesday, June 6 from 4 p.m. until time of memorial service at 7 p.m., at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home, 625 Browns Lake Drive. The Rev. Corrine Denis will officiate. Inurnment is Thursday, June 7, at noon at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove.
The family has suggested memorials be made to a veteran’s organization of your choice or the Alzheimer’s Association.
