Carolyn “Honey” J. McCarthy, 94, Burlington, died June 2, 2012, at Kindred Care Center. She was born Dec. 10, 1917, to the late John and Edna (Perkins) McCarthy in Burlington.
She was a lifelong resident of Burlington attending St. Charles Grade School and graduating from St. Mary’s High School. Following graduation she attended the School of Nursing in Rockford, Ill., getting certified as an LPN. She worked as an LPN for many years at Burlington Memorial Hospital. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
Survivors include her nieces, Mary Block, Edna Smetana, Nancy Krien; nephews, Richard McCarthy, William McCarthy, Thomas McCarthy, Michael McCarthy and Laurence Kelly.
She was further preceded in death by her Katherine Kelly; brothers, John E. and James McCarthy; nieces, Joan Newell, Barbara McCarthy; nephews, John R. and Patrick McCarthy; several great nieces and nephews.
Visitation is Thursday, June 7, from 11 a.m.-noon at The Good Shepherd Chapel at St. Mary’s. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. The Rev Jim Volkert will officiate. Burial will follow service at St. Charles Cemetery. Schuette-Daniels Family Funeral Home, Burlington, is assisting the family. Memorials to St. Mary’s Parish have been suggested.
