Each year the graduation program at Burlington High School includes a list of class accomplishments. Woven throughout the long list of achievements of the Class of 2012 is a common thread – service.

As a whole, the class logged nearly 20,000 community service hours, with 14 of the 300 graduates donating more than 200 hours and two accumulating more than 700 hours.

But the list doesn’t stop there. Twenty-two students have already earned their emergency medical technician certification and another 29 became certified nursing assistants while still in high school.

Certainly this is a class of high achievers – with 75 students earning high honors, 34 garnering honors, and numerous athletic, academic and performing arts teams qualifying for state and national competitions.

Amidst all the accolades, however, it was clear this class had learned an important lesson – knowledge is useless without a concern for fellow man.
