Firefighters corral barn blaze

Firefighters from Rochester and Waterford survey the remains of an old barn destroyed Monday afternoon in a fire at 736 N. Browns Lake Drive, Rochester. Rochester Fire Chief Jack Biermann said the blaze started after sparks from a pile of debris burning about 20 to 25 feet away were carried to the structure by the wind. The barn had partially fallen down over time, Biermann said. It was destroyed in the blaze. Fire units from the town and city of Burlington assisted by trucking in water from a city fire hydrant. Racine County sheriff’s deputies were on hand to control traffic. There were no reported injuries. (Photo by Ed Nadolski)
