VIVIAN J. GEORGE


Vivian J. George, 86, Burlington, died at her home on June 22, 2012. She was born in Burlington on Oct. 9, 1925, to the late Joseph and Florence (Brainerd) Cook. She had spent her early life in Kansasville and was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School. She earned her BA degree in Journalism from Marquette University in 1947.

On April 5, 1952 she married Floyd George. Following marriage they made their home in Burlington. He preceded her in death on Aug. 15, 2006.

She worked for 27 years at Gimbel’s Department Store in Milwaukee as the advertising copy chief and 17 years pioneering publicity at First Bank and Trust Company. She was known for her beautiful gladiolas, which she raised locally for 56 years. She and her husband were also active in 4-H sheep circles, receiving Wisconsin’s Master Shepherd Award.

Survivors include cousins, friends and her beloved caregivers.

Visitation is Thursday, June 28, from 9:30 a.m., in Good Shepherd Chapel at St. Mary’s Church until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. James Volkert will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Schuette-Daniels Family Funeral Home, Burlington, is assisting the family.
