GERALD N. SCHILZ


Gerald Nicholas Schilz hit his final home run at Aurora Memorial Hospital of Burlington on June 21, 2012 surrounded by his loving family.

He married Nancy Ann Robers on Sept. 29, 1956.

He was a City of Burlington volunteer fireman from 1959 until 1977 when he became the city’s first fire inspector. He remained in that position until his retirement in 1997.

He enjoyed baseball. He played hardball for 10 years after high school and then started the men’s softball league in Burlington. He also coached youth hardball for many years and was an avid Brewers fan.

He greatly enjoyed his family, grandchildren and many friends throughout the area. He enjoyed watching horseraces and further enjoyed traveling to his camper up north and spending time fishing.

Survivors include his children, Margaret (Ernst) Schilz-Klotz, Robert (Diane) Schilz, Jacquelyn (Blane) Schneider and Jean (Dennis) Poepping; grandchildren, Keena and Britte Schneider, Olivia and Nicholas Poepping, Holly Schilz and Susanne Klotz: brothers, Jack Reesman and Kenneth (Pat) Reesman.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas Schilz, Colette and Leo Reesman; father- and mother-in-law, Henry and Clara Robers; stepbrother, James Reesman; sister-in-law, Von Reesman; and niece, Tracey Reesman.

Visitation is Monday July 2, from 3-6:16 p.m., at Schuette-Daniels Family Funeral Home, 625 Browns Lake Drive, Burlington. A Memorial Mass is at 7 p.m., at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. The Rev. James Volkert will officiate.
