“Mulan Jr.” – the story of the young Chinese woman who is a disappointment to her family until helping save her country from invading Huns – comes to the stage at the Malt House Theater Thursday night.

The play – the annual production of the Young Haylofters – is set for an eight-show run on Aug. 9-12 and Aug. 16-18.

Thursday-Saturday shows begin at 7 p.m. and Sunday shows start at 2 p.m.

Tickets are $7 each and can be purchased through the Haylofters website (www.thehaylofters.com) or at the Grater Tater, 140 W. Chestnut St., Burlington. For additional information or to purchase tickets over the phone, call 763-9873.

The play is based on Disney’s animated film “Mulan.” The audience will travel back to the story-telling days of ancient China. The Huns have invaded, and it is up to the misfit Mulan and her mischievous sidekick Mushu to save the emperor. The production is a celebration of culture, honor and fighting spirit. The musical score includes favorites from the movie, such as “Reflection,” “Honor to Us All” and “I’ll Make a Man Out of You.”

The show is directed by Erica Haglund and Leah Nickolai, who are veterans of Young Haylofters productions.
