In its first Southern Lakes Conference dual of the season, the Burlington High School girls’ tennis team dropped a 5-2 match to Waterford Tuesday.

Of the seven individual matches played, four of them went three sets, with Burlington going 2-2 in those close contests.

Burlington won a three-set match at No. 2 doubles, where Lydia Crabtree and Sierra Koenen won the first set 6-2 over Kate Weber and Katie Queram, lost the second 6-3, but came back to dominate the third set 6-1.

Burlington’s other three-set win came at No. 4 singles where Courtney Wieners defeated Lauren Sikora. Wieners lost the first set 6-3, but evened the match with a 6-2 win in the second set. She squeaked out a 7-6 (4) in the third set.

The two three-set matches the Demon girls lost came at No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles.

At No. 2 singles, Coral Miller won the first set 6-3, but lost the next two sets by 6-3, 6-4 scores to Sydney Ciano.

The Demons won two out of five matches at the Janesville Craig Invitational Friday and Saturday.

No Demon girl played the same position throughout the five matches as coach Rose Dolatowski tried different lineups at singles and doubles. At total of 13 different Demons competed over the two days.

Crabtree and Koenen teamed up throughout the two days, playing four matches at No. 2 doubles and one at No. 1. They won three of their four matches at No. 2, and were victorious in their only match at No. 1.

The only match they lost was a close three-set loss to a Milton pairing.

Zeman and Leuck were paired up in three matches at No. 1 doubles, and were victorious in all three.

Zeman was paired with Grandi in another match, losing that match, and then played one match at No. 1 singles, winning 6-1, 6-2.

Puntillo and Christoph played three matches at No. 3 doubles and one at No. 2, finishing those four matches at 2-2.
